Purpose
Close the gap between the street people need and the street people actually experience.
We believe that everyone should be able to experience streets that are safe, accessible, functional and respectful of human dignity.
Who We Are
Safe Streets Impact & Development Initiative (SSIDI) works to improve pedestrian safety, promote responsible driver behaviour and support practical responses to everyday street-safety challenges.
Purpose
We believe that everyone should be able to experience streets that are safe, accessible, functional and respectful of human dignity.
Vision
A street environment where people can move safely, drivers act responsibly, and pedestrians are protected.
Mission
Through advocacy, education, partnerships, research and practical community-based interventions, we work with communities, public institutions, professionals and other stakeholders to understand street challenges and develop practical, evidence-informed responses.
The SSIDI Approach
Lasting improvement begins with understanding. We put people first, listen and observe before proposing solutions, build shared responsibility, work with the right partners and return to measure what changed.
Put people, particularly pedestrians and other vulnerable road users, at the centre of our work.
Listen, observe and gather evidence before proposing solutions.
Use evidence and engagement to promote safer, more responsible behaviour and shared responsibility.
Work with communities, government, transport agencies, professionals, businesses and other stakeholders to develop practical responses.
Return to the street and ask: What changed? Learn from the results and improve.
Shared Responsibility
SSIDI brings people, evidence and institutions together to turn everyday street challenges into practical opportunities for safer movement.
